Associate Pastor of Music and Outreach
A native of Texas, Richard joined the Memorial staff in August, 2007. Richard graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Church Music degree and from Truett Baptist Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity. He has served previously at Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Waco, Texas and First Baptist Church of Gatesville, Texas.
When not singing or playing the piano, or sitting at his desk, or drinking coffee, he likes to be outdoors playing sports, canoeing, climbing, camping, or hanging out in the local coffee shops and bookstores. He also enjoys a good home improvement project and working on mission trips. He says he's never met a power tool he didn't like except a saw-zaw. Richard is thrilled to be here at Memorial and excited about the new challenges and great possibilites of life in DC!
Associate Pastor of Youth and Missions
In April of 2013, Brooke was delighted to join the community, journey, and work of the gathering of believers called Memorial Baptist Church. She has roots in Texas: she grew up in South Texas, attended schools in Central Texas, and served in East Texas. Remembering her roots, she leaps into a new adventure and home in Virginia! Brooke has been shaped by the communities and work in which she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies from Howard Payne University and a Masters of Divinity from George W. Truett Seminary. She is currently working on her Doctorate of Ministry at Truett Seminary. She is thankful for her ordination from Calvary Baptist Church in Waco, TX. Previously Brooke had the gift of serving at Central Baptist Church in Marshall, TX. Brooke is eager to explore the ways we can share the love of Christ with those around us in Arlington, surrounding areas, and the world. One of her favorite quotes is from Pierre Teilhard de Chardin: “Above all trust in the slow work of God.” Indeed, God is at work in our midst...may we be alert so that we become people grounded in the love of God, loving God and loving people.
Bill (or BJ, as he is known by many) helps out in many ways throughout the life of Memorial Baptist Church. He regularly teaches in adult education, plays guitar and sings with the LifeLine worship team, sings in the adult choir, leads two Wednesday night dinner teams, is a regular with ASPAN meal preparation, and has been seen taking a few (thousand) pictures. Bill also lives out his gifts and call at his full-time job in the community. A graduate of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in San Francisco, Bill and his family initially came to Memorial in 1992 as associate pastor, with music and education as his primary focuses.
After working in a shared position with the Northern Virginia Baptist association, NorthStar Church Network, Artemia joined the Memorial staff full-time in September of 2007. Artemia is a graduate from the University of Maryland, College Park in Spanish with a minor in Business Administration. Artemia enjoys a good walk down the streets of Arlington, but she especially enjoys volunteering for all types of ministry opportunities including the Emanuel Baptist Church, Hispanic Congregation, where her father has pastored since 1998. She feels blessed to see so many ministries at work in Memorial and rejoices working along side each one of the church members.
Children's Ministry Director
Sally grew up at Memorial Baptist Church into a young woman of great faith and desire to serve the Lord, Jesus Christ. Sally is a Marymount University graduate with a master in elementary education. She began her ministry with Memorial in 2006 and continues to faithfully serve the children and families of Memorial Baptist Church. Sally is now the proud mother of one year old son, Elias, a delightful blessing for both her and husband, Gabriel.
Belinda is proudly serving with our staff as a part-time assistant to support the work and mission of Memorial Baptist. Belinda is married to John Culberson, and their daughter Caroline is in the youth group.
Ruben is a critical part of life and work at Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to his outstanding engineering and maintenance skills, he is a man of great faith with a stirring personal testimony in Jesus Christ. We are privileged that he and his lovely family -- wife Rocio and children Yessennia, Santiago, and Josué -- make Memorial Baptist their church home.
